FOOD CHAIN A food chain shows the flow of energy from one living organism to another. A food chain has PRODUCERS AND CONSUMERS CONSUMERS can be again classified into: a. Primary Consumers : Organisms that eat the producers are called primary consumers. They are usually herbivores. b. Secondary consumers : Organisms that eat primary consumers are called Secondary consumers. c. Tertiary Consumers : Organisms that eat secondary consumers are called Tertiary Consumers. The amount of energy transfered from one level to another decreases because energy is lost in the form of heat at each level.
